The 8th Annual CaribbeanTales Toronto Film Showcase

Celebrate films from the Caribbean diaspora with screenings and networking sessions at the 8th annual CaribbeanTales Toronto Film Showcase (September 4-14, 2013). Check out films such as Kingston Paradise by Director, Mary Wells, about a street hustler stuck in the violent ghettos of Kingston. See also complete list of films.

Curatorial statement from Artistic Director of CaribbeanTales Toronto Film Showcase, Frances-Anne Solomon:

The Caribbean is coming to Toronto as an explosion of talent in images and sound. Rejecting “sun, sand and surf,” filmmakers from the region and its diaspora – Europe, North America, Africa and India – are hoisting up the camera as a powerful weapon for the expression of their unique voices. They include established and emerging filmmakers from the French, Dutch, Spanish and English territories; from every ethnic group and combination of ethnicities, driven by the force of mixed heritages, fierce in the determination to tell the stories of our diverse experiences and common ancestry, in our own words, images and languages, using any means available and necessary. We are proud to be Caribbean.
