The Tubman Institute is pleased to announce the launch of the Research International Film Festival (RIFF) website. RIFF is a collaborative effort of the Centre International de Recherches sur les Esclavages – Acteurs, Systèmes, Représentations (CIRESC), Centre interuniversitaire d’études sur les lettres, les arts et les traditions de L’Université Laval (CELAT), the Harriet Tubman Institute, and Laboratório de História Oral e Imagem – Universidade Federal Fluminense (LABHOI).
Since 2008, RIFF has organized annual festivals centred around the history and memory of slavery–its heritage and its forms of presence in contemporaneity. Screenings of selected films take place, regularly, in the following cities: Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Toronto and Québec.
RIFF receives films constantly throughout the year for its annual festival. Visit the submissions page for more information.
For more information about the films from previous editions of the festival – some available online – please visit the archives.
